DUTCH GRENADIERS

Post by curassier » Sat Jun 07, 2008 1:39 pm

Working on organising three Dutch wargame units including the Blue Guard.
Following on from my earlier question should these have red or orange cuffs circa 1706? I'm also wondering about head-gear for the grenadiers. I'm using the fine Front Rank figures who do a nice Dutch Grenadier in a low mitre cap with what looks like a small metal plate. How should this be painted for line Dutch infantry? And is it correct for the Blue Guards; some illustartions show them in a low fur "mitre" not so very different to the British dragoon grenadiers. So should I do a head swop for them? Many thanks gentlemen.

Curassier,

Dutch grenadier caps were of various designs. The FR grenadier has a cap based on that of regiment Friesheim. Various other cap designs were in use. The existing caps we know of are in the uniform colours of their regiment (Van Els, Pallandt).

Hope this helps some,
