Barry,
I really like the recent images you posted of your Boyne terrain. Is there any chance you could give us a quick run down of your construction techniques?

It looks excellent. It'll be nice to see it in the 'flesh' on Saturday at Claymore.

slightly off topic but are you coming down for 2nd Partizan
and if so what are you planning, another LOA game
Nice terrain and I trust you will post lots of pics of the full game after the show

Roy,
the boards are 2 x 2 basic styrene tiles from TSS. I then carve them with a hot knife and a lot of elbow grease into the shapes I want. The river is mounted on 3mm Ply. The styrene groundwork is then lightly coated in plaster and when set dusted in a PVA coat and sprinkled with fine sand. The grass areas are simply pva coated and dusted with sprinkle on static grass from Woodland scenics. When dry I coat in household emulsion paint of an appropriate shade then highlight up with other lighter emulsions.
All done with the kind of brushes you'd paint the skirting boards in your house with.
River is painted in artists acrylics and then has about seven cotas of yacht varnish on top. Some woodlands scenic foam bushes added. Trees are free standing.
The actual terrain making is messy but relatively straightforward. They key is drying times for each of the stages.

Stuart... Partizan is a 12 x 6 segment from our 28 x 14 foot Ligny game. Roughly 2000 figures, lovely terrain made by Adrian Howe and the cobined collections of 5 of the League of Gentlemen Wargamers... very nice

Sounds all very straight forward but I'm sure it would take a while to master.

Dave...... yep I should, if the missus would let me, but I have a plan
which involves a little cunning, as we both want to holiday in Scotland during the School holidays, so I'll plan it around Claymore time

Barry......sounds great, for Napoleonics (and for me) Prussians are the best
