The Period 1660 - 1721 Required/Recommended Reading

Post by Captain of Dragoons » Thu Oct 20, 2005 10:13 pm

This is a great period and everybody knows the works of Chandler. What else is a good read for our period?

Don't forget fiction; I remember in JR High the first book I read about the WSS and Marlborough. It was by Ronald Welch called "Captain of Dragoons". As you can see that is where I got my forum name. One of Marlborough's ADC's gets caught up in a spy ring and the book ends at the Battle of Blenheim.

What I would like to find now is a good military history of the War of the Grand Alliance.

cheers,

Ed

Ed,

go to the 17t century archive and sift through the list there which I think is labelled DRAFT REFERENCE LIST GRAND ALLIANCE. Lindsay Gauld has notated a long bibliography which should solve your immediate needs!
