Help Needed On Imperialist OoB's On The Rhine

Post by Sir William » Sun Aug 28, 2011 3:55 am

Gentlemen;

As the title states; I am looking for sources (reliable preferably) on any existing OoB's or composition of the three armies facing the French in the Rhineland in 1689. These would have been the army commanded by the Elector of Brandenburg, that commanded by the Elector of Bavaria, and the "main" army under Charles V (prior to his death).

I could also use any information on specific French regiments under Duras, Vauban or the various subsequent commanders. I have gleaned quite a bit from Suzanne's "Histoire's", but I have found that the old General was not always totally reliable, so would appreciate any specific OoB's.

All I was able to find in Nafziger was the composition of Prussian forces at the siege of Bonn in 1689.

1
Prussian Forces
Siege of Bonn
l689
Trabanten Cavalry Squadron
Grand Musketeer Cavalry Squadron
Leib Cuirassier Regiment
Kurprinz Cuirassier Regiment
Anhalt Cuirassier Regiment
Derfflinger Cuirassier Regiment
Sachsen Cuirassier Regiment
Luttwitz Cuirassier Regiment
Hamel Cuirassier Regiment
Lehtmat Cuirassier Squadron
Derfflinger Dragoon Regiment
Leib Dragoon Regiment
Sonsfeld Dragoon Squadron
Ansbach Dragoon Squadron
Perbrandt Dragoon Squadron
Leibgarde Infantry Regiment (5)
Donhoff Infantry Regiment (2)
Barfuss Infantry Regiment (2)
Schonberg Infantry Regiment (2)
Kurprinz Infantry Regiment (l)
Margraf Philip Infantry Regiment (l)
Anhalt Infantry Regiment (l)
Derfflinger Infantry Regiment (l)
Spaen Infantry Regiment (l)
Dohna Infantry Regiment (l)
Alt-Holstein Infantry Regiment (l)
Jung-Holstein Infantry Regiment (l)
Kurland Infantry Regiment (l)
Briquemault Infantry Regiment (l)
Zieten Infantry Regiment (l)
Belling Infantry Regiment (l)
Varenne Infantry Regiment (l)
Lottum Infantry Regiment (l)
Cournaud Infantry Regiment (l)
Piedmontese Independent Infantry Company
40 guns (later 60 guns)

That at least gives you an idea what the Prussians contributed somewhere on the Rhine. Unfortunately, he has no organizational structure.
With Gen'l Custer Down in Mexico: Yes, one of the goals is to see how many times one can get him killed.

Thank you Sir! That actually helps quite a bit. I have references on several of those regiments from Grant, now just need to come up with some standards. And, of course, keep looking for the Bavarians and German States :roll:

Returning to 1689, J.H Hennes gives the following Imperial regiments for the siege of Mainz/Mayence :

* Alt Stahremberg
* Beck (or Beckh)
* Szerenyi
* Stadel
* Kaunitz

The Bavarian Leibregiment is also known to have participated in the siege. Here's a link to the full German text, which can be downloaded for free :
