NYW/WSS artillery equipment

Post by maciek » Tue Oct 04, 2011 8:41 pm

I wonder what was the typical artillery equipment, beside the guns of course. I mean small items I can put on the artillery stand...

buckets, balls, ropes - OK
sheepskin, powder barrel - this is the question. Do they still use barrels ? Not the chests ?

For your artillery base, apart from the gun and number of crew you could have gabions and fascines and a group of cannonballs as Barry has mentioned.Everything else I'd keep for the Artillery Park behind the gun base.I plan to add limbers, horses, oxen and civilian workers.
So how did they keep gunpowder near the guns ?

I'm unaware of any army having caisson's at this period, powder was usually kept in barrels and covered with a protective leather sheet. There would also be barrels of water for washing out the cannons.
