French ammunition wagons and limbers.

Post by Herkybird » Mon May 07, 2012 5:37 pm

Greetings!

I am painting up my French artillery for the Spanish Succession, and cannot, for the life of me, find the colours of French ammunition wagons and limbers!
Were they Red, with black metalwork like the guns, natural wood, or something else?

Incidentally, does anyone know if anyone does piles of cannonballs, or do you have to use divers shot etc?

Thank you in anticipation! :?

They were any colour you like or just wood colour. The wagons were supplied by private contractors or commandeered from peasants. There was no official commisariat.
Mutineer miniatures and redoubt do piles of cannon balls. I use fishing weights or shotgun shot!

Wonderful!

Thank you so much! - I would have hated to put my figures on the table to be poo-pooed by a more informed observer!

Thanks for the info on the cannonballs too - much appreciated!

 There is always the threat of the wargames fashion police regardless but they have less to go on at this period. Easy colours to make as they are mixtures of readily avalible cheap pigments are Yellowish karki ,Bronze Green, Black, and Terracotta Red

Ignore the more "informed" observers. They are usually social inadequates !
A suggestion involving both procreation and travel is often successful.

Hi again!

I have gone for a fetching dark green on my wagon, and have sent off for the cannonballs from redoubt - as well as more random junk to go on my field gun rear areas.

Thanks again for all your help!
