It's all still going on over here so when is the next boat?

I have been told I am a very brave man.. I once demo gamed the Battle of the Boyne at a Glasgow Wargames show. 8)

Mostly passed without incident although on a couple of occasions I saw small huddles indulging in dark mutterings whilst watching the action unfold...

Along the lines of.... Jimmy, that's the Boyne isn't it?....
Aye, so it is Billy... what's the wee man playing at?

Depending on location, you were safe as long as you didn't change the historical outcome!

Speaking of Glasgow. several years ago my brother in law and i were in an alcohol emporium near celtic park. it was summer time and my brother in law was wearing a T shirt.
He was approached by one of the local neanderthals who told him that he was gonna gie him a doin on account of his tattoo supporting king Billy.
My brother in law pointed out that his wifes name is Iris and the tattoo said
Iris/ Billy not irish Billy as the ned thought.
First time he'd been threatened with violence cause the guy,s illiterate.!!

We keep hearing about what William's plans were and what he got up to but it would be interesting to know what his wife Mary thought of the idea of attacking and dethroning her father. Does anyone have info on that subject?

O dear me, I thought it was essentially the struggle of the Highlanders to get their independence, as at the time of Bravehearth.
From reading the four Osprey's books that I have, I had in fact done this idea.
I guess I'll have to study the English history of the period 1700.

David,

am sure that Bentinck was all for it....

Sorry, you mean his legal wife. Well Mary apparently went along with anything she was told. It seems that stupidity was spread throughout the line but only the men got the intelligence and deviousness (most of which had been cornered by Charles II).

Berwick was apparently quite bright, as was the putative James III/VIII depending on perspective, Henry Fitzjames was a spoiled child and there are volumes about the Italianate Pole.

That said, William was half Stuart and he was as devious as......(so he probably got the bit that Charles II didn't)

- Mike.
