Battle of Ramillies Black Powder refight

Post by scrivs » Sun Dec 09, 2012 9:35 pm

Today I had the great honour to partake in the Sunday Cake Clubs Battle of Ramillies refight at Gripping Beast HQ.

The 24ft x 6ft table was loaded with over 2000 Foot and 900 Horse and was indeed a spectacle to behold.

I have updated the Scrivsland blog with loads of pictures and a bit of a report.

Spoiler Alert: I was on the losing side :-)

Scrivs,

thats one hell of a battle  Very nice pictures and the last tree show the sheer amoumt of figures in game very good. Also I do like the fews of the battle lines facing each other.
Great looking game!

Just got around to sorting out a few more photos of the day.

Great fun had by all and went in line with history. British, Hessen Kassel, and Danish foot holding up the right flank whilst transfering most of their cavalry to the left flank. This gave them an impressive 2 to 1 superiority over the French, which even the Maison du Roi could not hold back.

We find it works well as long as you change anything you think feels wrong.

So we have Muskets with 12 inch range, Cavalry are in Squadrons, so small units. This makes them brittle against formed foot but ok against other cavalry units. As most people were playing with 20-25 squadron each it meant that they would throw them in to try to break opposing Brigades. Knowing that they still had other brigades ready to exploit a break-through.
