For a change Barry is correct  , the figure is from Gripping Beast but he doesn't actually have a sling in his hand but he is a lovely figure.

Great idea for Tangiers Barry, ideal for "skirmish", I've got the English, just got to convince Mark to add Moors to his Ottoman collection.

Must admit looking forward to these skirmish rules, I had North America in mind for 1672-1712 era and me and Mark had been discussing setting our Witchfinder General in this era, so as to maximise use of his Sedgemoor skirmish figures, my English etc. I hadn't even considered Tangiers

I am going to finish some English 'Cuirassiers' for Tangier Stuart, they will look nice. I will do a proper infantry force using the Apostle equipped figures. It's all coming together. The rules are pretty much done and the faction lists are pretty much finished too. Clarence has been busy on the artwork and layout. This book will jump the queue and be out relatively quickly. You are right on the Witchfinder stuff too as we have included a fair bit of stuff relating to 17th Century superstition. That will be taken a little further with a downloadable pdf which will supplement the main book.

Stuart, the main reason I came up with Tangiers scenarios was because I had these Moors sitting around waiting for a chance to come out of the box. The Moors I have were produced for the El Cid period but I'm sure plenty of them still looked like that in the 1680's but with a touch of Ottoman styling thrown in. There is no generic faction list currently for the Ottomans so you could either use them as Moors or just use the Moorish lists and just use them as Ottomans for fighting around Vienna.

The Faction covering the Moors is currently described at TRIBAL.

What we've done for the core factions in the rules are cover as many as possible options associated with Scots/English/Irish and their domestic and early colonial adventures... North America, Tangier, Darien etc. We have also as I mentioned before focused on the Occult/pseudo Occult side of 17th century superstition. Army to Army fighting which would be Grand Alliance/WSS etc is all dealt with under the ARMY faction section. This means the rules are good for conventional regular army skirmishing in Flanders, Spain etc. HIGHLANDERS are treated seperately as well as several other generic or uniquely British factions.
We'll take it further with the factions as deman dictates.. ie GNW, Balkans, Ottomans, India etc... all possible and the factions have been fun to do 8)

Yes, as a matter a fact. OG25's has a nice range of Cossack and Cossack character figures both mounted and dismounted.

Greg, you could probably use the Tribal faction for Cossacks with changes to the weapons allowed depending on the period.

We haven't gone into too much detail about the game yet, but there are several reasons we've decided to include the factions at all...

1. To allow players to get into 'pick up' games and have a reasonable expectation of having evenly matched forces.
2. Army lists are great for players who are just getting into the period and provide a goal for collecting your troops. Plus it's fun to muck around with army lists!
3. We were able to introduce a lot of period character with the faction special rules and specific... err... Characters!

That said, there is nothing to stop you from mixing and matching factions and characters to come up with your own forces, or even design new characters, when playing with friends. I once ran a Napoleonic game using these rules that included Dr Who...

Where we'd be able to add some further colour with the Cossacks(or any faction for that matter) is through the characters. I have done further development work on character concepts and ideas... Clarence and playtesters.. these will be on their way to you later today!

The Moorish section of the Tribal faction could probably just be used for Cossacks as it is, mainly a mounted force with a smattering of infantry. As Clarence suggested just a slight chance in weapons depending on period would be easy to do and a few different characters would need to be changed.

video link kindly sent by Carl deRoo of the Red Barons. It shows the Bokkenrijders.... Dave will attest, this looks just like one of our skirmish games!
