Dutch Inf Uniform WSS oops.

Post by Budyenny » Sun Jan 20, 2013 9:41 pm

Gents

Need a bit of help please.
First of all way back when I started my project with my old group Leighton Buzzard and due to lack of information at that time, I painted what I thought was an accurate depiction of a Dutch unit. I painted as follows. Coat, light grey, cuffs rose pink (I know, I know what was I thinking?), lining rose pink, breeches rose pink, stockings white, everything else as it should be.

Now the question is, does anyone have any, however vague, any suggestions as to what this unit could be? I happened upon this detail somewhere but cannot for the life of me remember where I read this information. So any suggestions, I don't really wish to re paint the little darlings? Flags would also be useful. The unit doe not have to be in Dutch service it could belong to another unit in the alliance WSS that is.

The figures are all Front Rank.

Once you have finished laughing let me know.

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

It doesn't sound like any Dutch regiment I ever heard of. I had a look at the "de Wilde" plates on the Dutch army museum website, but the closest you get are grey coats with red facings (over time they would have gone a sort of pink ;-). I am no expert though. Maybe Austrians used pink facings?

Austrian with Pink? Most certain :D After all having over 50 Regiment they run out of facing colours...remember they didn't have true colour at this time

Hope that helps,

Hi Paul,

The Dutch Infantry regiment Nassau-Walen at one time was dressed in the colour scheme you mention. Another 'pink' unit was cavalry regiment Waldeck. Schematic uniforms and flags in the link below.

Cheers,

Mats

As Bazz said, the dyes used doing this period meant that colours faded over time so you could use them to represent a red cuffed regiment. Red cuffs were the most common colour so there are plenty of regiments to choose from.
Best wishes,
Simon

Gentlemen

Many thanks to all of you.

I checked out the website suggested by Mats. This was the one I found the uniform info on several years ago then forgot about it. So thank you Mats.

So off to find the right flags (i need two) and another regiment enters my United Provinces army.

Regards

Paul
