Big battalions

This is the first of our big battalions which Barry and I were thinking of using for fighting small scale actions involving only 2 or 3 battalions such as Sedgemoor.

The figures are individually based on pennies for our skirmish actions using Clarence's new Donnybrook rules but also slot into these larger bases from Warbases for small scale actions. I hope to take some pics of this unit to show the multiple uses of this style of basing.

Dave,
real B B's :D
beautiful bastards

did you paint this unit for this particular reason or is it made of two already existing units which have been grouped together?

I' m asking because my Saxon Regiments are made of several Battalions and so I would have a chance to pull them together to form a huge unit....only a thought

Great Work!

Cheers,
Günter

This unit has been completed for a specific reason, for fighting small actions with much larger units where there are only 2 or 3 battalions a side. I do plan on splitting this unit up with an addition of different standard bearers for normal BLB2 games. A normal cavalry squadron for BLB2 will be used as a troop for these type of games and a gun model will be a single gun.

For fighting Donnybrook actions this regiment splits down to an 8 figure unit of drilled pikemen, two 8 figure units of drilled musketeers, a 4 figure unit of veteran musketeers and a 3 figure unit of grenadiers. For characters I can have a captain who adds morale bonus', a drummer who aids movement, an ensign who adds to combat resolution and two sergeants who controls reloading without waiting for the reload card to come up. The mounted Colonel is the faction leader.
All of this from one large battalion and is actually more than you need for a basic Donnybrook game which actually only needs four units so this gives me a choice of what to field.

Here's a photo of some of the troops being used in the Donnybrook role.
The drilled pike unit has drummer and an ensign attached to them while the veteran musketeer unit in the background has a sergeant attached to allow them to reload quicker.

Dave,
sounds fun, and in case of the Drummer/Seargent/Officer very logical :D
Thanks for those details.

Thanks Edward!
The pikes never actually got into action in this game but their effect in the 2 games they took part in with Bob was very effective once they got to close quarters.
