Sheffield Triples show - the battle of Almansa 1707

Post by Eugenio von Savoy » Thu May 15, 2014 11:06 pm

Hi all

Just a plug to advise colleagues within this forum of the 'Like a stone wall' Wargames Group demo game at the Triples this year.

We will refight Almansa 1707 using some specially built terrain from Nick 'the Mole' Buxey and loads of new Ebor Miniatures 28mm Spanish, Portuguese and French figures.

Hope you can join us or just pop by for a chat.
Pictures later.

Fortunate enough to see the game yesterday and I must say it looked spectacular.

Congratulations to all those involved for a great looking demo game.

Hi All,

Thanks for that feedback. It is much appreciated after this much effort in producing the game. Here are a few shots as promised.

Interesting to see the various comments on blogs this evening. In one we were considered to be a mediaeval game - must have been the castle model and the wall to wall cloth battalion and squadron flags on the table.

Hi all

Here are a few more shots from the second (Sunday) game. The Franco-Spanish won this one as well but with heavy casualties and facing very determined Portuguese horse this time! Well done to Dale on that count.

A reminder that 2/3 of the figures used were Ebor Miniatures and we invited Nick Wragg to join us for the weekend event.

Hi Jim,

Yes we played this game with our set, 'Wild Geese' which we put together in the mid-nineties on the back of a set of ECW/TYW rules that we had been using beforehand.

In some of the pictures you can see the hexagon shaped casualty markers that save us space and paperwork used when recording casualties caused on a unit. The core mechanics of command and tailored morale checks within the rule system has been expanded over the years and we now have rule sets in the 'stable' for most periods up to 1900.

As a result of successfully fielding The Assault on Mons Salient at the Triples two years ago we are wheeling it out again with some new terrain features at the Worlds later this year with 'Vipers Bound' our latest rule set for the early part of the conflict before the trench lines were formed.
