Yes my 1/72 scale GNW collection is rather large - now if I could only get all those figures painted! As it stands right now I've only got about 50 infantry and 50 cavalry painted. For the GNW I've got the following units mounted on their movement stands but not painted:
8 battalions of Swedish infantry (19 man units)
12 squadrons of Swedish cavalry (12 man units)
I've purchased 5 boxes of the Swedish artillery but only have a few guns and crew built and mounted
8 battalions of Russian infantry (19 man units)
8 squadrons of Russian cavalry (12 man units)
I've purchased 5 boxes of the Russian artillery but only have a few guns and crew built and mounted
8 battalions of Saxon infantry (19 man units)
8 squadrons of Saxon cavalry (12 man units)
I haven't done anything yet with the Saxon artillery
8 battalions of Danish infantry (19 man units)
8 squadrons of Danish cavalry (12 man units)
I haven't done anything yet with the Danish artillery
I've purchased 3 boxes of the Zaporozahian Cossacks but only have a few painted and mounted
For the Scanian War I've got the following units mounted on their movement stands but not painted:
8 battalions of Swedish infantry (19 man units)
8 squadrons of Swedish cavalry (12 man units)
I haven't done anything yet with the Swedish artillery
8 battalions of Danish infantry (19 man units)
8 squadrons of Danish cavalry (12 man units)
I haven't done anything yet with the Danish artillery
I've purchased 3 boxes of the 1/72nd scale Imex Pilgrims to use for my Snapphane figures - about half have been mounted on movement stands
Yesterday I finished up mounting 4 battalions of those Scanian War figures on their movement bases. First I cut the plastic sheet card bases 3.5" x 2.5", sand all the edges; then I glue the 1/2" magnetic strips to the bases; I purchase the 3/4" x 3/4" sheet metal bases from a local sheet metal fabricating company but I use a file to round off the four corners; I then carefully remove all flashing from each figure with an Exacto no. 11 blade; each figure is then glued to the metal base with DAP Contact Cement; the battalion is then ready for the painting process. Mounting each figure on a metal base works out great for the painting process because I use 1" diameter dowel rods cut to 1" lengths with a 1/2" x 1/2" strip of magnetic tape on one end, that way it's much easier to handle each figure while I'm painting it.
Here's how I base the battalion for Beneath the Lily Banners rules:
Rank Firing units:
stand #1
M M
M M
M M
stand #2
E D E
P P
P P
stand #3
M G
M M
M M
Platoon Firing units:
stand #1
M M M
M M M
stand #2
E D O E
P P P
stand #3
M M G
M M M
KEY:
M = musketeer P = pikeman G = grenadier E = ensign
D = drummer O = officer
Mounting my figures on metal bases with magnetic strips on the movement base allows me to mount them according to which ever set of rules I'm using and/or for individual mounting for skirmish gaming.
But these are only a part of my 1/72nd scale collection, I also have Romans, Carthagenians, gladiators, Vikings, medieval knights and peasants, samurai, Thirty Years War, American Civil War, wild west and WWII. The only other gaming scale that I have are my 28mm Bretonnian knight figures, Necromunda figures and my 1/35th scale WWII. I sold off my rather large collection of Dragon 1/6th scale 'dolls', I had over 100 of those action figures - WWII and Wild West.
I'm really looking forward to gaming the GNW and Scanian War with Barry's Beneath the Lily Banners - Ga Pa!
