Louis xiv Swiss guards

Post by lee sherman » Wed Aug 05, 2015 12:57 pm

Hello
does anyone know what the drummer uniform is for the Swiss guards of 1670s 1690s?
I have found info on the troops as 1600s blue grey coats with buff facings and then 1670s changed to red coats with blue facing... drummers nothing :-S

Thanks

Mark Allen gives the Livree du Roi for both Garde regiments, but notes the Gardes Suisses would have had the blue breeches and stockings of the rest of the regiment.

Excellent thank you Sir

I take it all drummers if royal wore the livree du roi coats but with regimental breeches stockings? Eg Picardie livree du ROI grey breeches stockings or Languedoc livree du ROI with blue breeches red stockings? etc etc.

Were can I get the Mark Allen stuff from? he appears a lot when i ask questions on stuff :-)

Thanks

The British Army 1660-1702 No.123 P16
The British Army 1660-1702 Pt.2 No.125 P44
The British Army 1660-1702 No.126 P12

The Armies of James II & William III – Flags No.128 P44
The Dutch Infantry in the Reign of William III No.170 P34

The Dutch Cavalry in the Reign of William III No.173 P14
The Dutch Dragoons and Artillery in the Reign of William III No.174 P34
The Dutch Cavalry in the Reign of William III ‘cont’ No.174 P38
The Dutch Army of William III – Allies and Generals No.175 P16

Its pretty much the French army, (minus the line cavalry) and the British and Dutch. I spent some time hunting down the original issues (got issues 1-120 on ebay ages back).

In the last year or two WI was selling the set on a CD for £30, whether they still are I don't know, but it might be worth dropping them a line to see if its still available (they are changing management at the moment so might be best to wait til that's done).
