Swiss Guards 1670s

Post by lee sherman » Sun Nov 01, 2015 12:57 pm

Hello

I have the osprey book Louis xiv army and a section about the guards says Swiss have blue coats and buff facings, is it a yellow colour the buff or would it be a buff same as say sword belts and bandolier holder? Also says musketeers received red coats but pikemen have blue.. I assume that's the old blue coats with buff facings?. It doesn't say they are the old coats but this is what they observed at the musters maybe?

Thanks

I painted mine in Red Coats with Red Facings, but Blue waistcoats and leggings, and the Pike in Blue Coats with Red facings, with red waistcoats and blue leggings.

I didn't put any buff facings on them.

I can't actually remember why I chose that scheme, but it seemed the most accurate at the time!

They are Northstar 1672 it's a little before Augsburg but the range has infantry in the Longer Sleeved coats as well more in fashion of the 1690s the French coats have shorter sleeves and a shoulder ribbon I think they had longer sleeves and no ribbons in the 1690s?? But I like the look of them so went short sleeves and ribbons :-)
