Information required - Bourke's Fusileers

Hi

I'm hoping someone will have uniform details for a Regiment in James II Army at Aughrim.

The regiment is listed as Bourke's Fusileers

Did they use the standard Fusileer Headdress and any details of the uniform would be helpful

Did the carry a Standard and if so any idea what it was

Secondly did Jacobite Dragoons wear the fur hat or the standard floppy hat

Thanks in advance

David

The answer is i,m afraid that no one really knows .information on actual uniforms of the jacobites is very hard to come by.there is only information on a few infantry regiments and two cavalry regiments.

I suppose you could just make it up within reason . There maybe some other posters who could hopefully point you in the right direction..all i know was they were refered to as the caps.but that came from the sapherson book and to be honest i wouldn,t particularly go by sapherson.

To accompany the previously mentioned Williamite Army at Aughrim I am well advanced with the Jacobite Army too. It draws on over 50 sources and I believe has in one place lots of info which is not possible to find in a single source elsewhere.
This includes as much into as I could gather on service histories and equipment too.

The regiment Mark is referring to as 'The Caps' is Lord Iveagh's.

Bourke's Fusiliers are likeley to have been flintlock musket armed and may not have carried pikes. There were several colonels Bourke including John and Walter. De Burgh is a form of the name.

Thanks all, I was going to be conservative. Grey coat with grey or white cuffs. Grey trousers, a second option was all red. Seeing the rule book it out soon and I have a pre order I'll wait to see what's in it

Thanks again

It's not a fusilier unit, no matter what 'sources' may say - It's a detachment of two companies of Colonel Walter Bourke's regiment of foot, the remainder of which is in Aughrim village. Depending on the antecedents they are probably wearing gris-mesle with or without cuff distinctions and naturally with 'normal' hats. Given the reference to the word 'fusilier' these may or may not have been equipped with French flintlocks (hence why they were put in the castle) whilst the remainder of the unit may or may not have been equipped with French matchlocks.

Jeez. Just noticed the Q about dragoons - Hat.

Furred cap was generally only for parades as it was - in comparison - expensive and theory was that they would only be reissued every other year. There may also be refs to dragoon caps (à la Francais) in the ships mainfests .....

One that wasn't asked, but I'll throw in are the huguenot's. All in gris-mesle, musket no pikes and most likely no bayonets.

Caillemotte (After 01.07.90 Cambon) Red distinctions.
Mélonière White distinctions.
Belcastel Blue distinctions.

After the Boyne Cambon assumes command of Caillemotte's regiment and rotates down as junior colonel.
Colonel's colours are white cross of St Denis on White field. Company colours are as far as my research goes to date are white cross of St Denis with (seemingly) fleurs de lis in a block canton on the upper hoist in distinction colour other cantons alternate horizontal stripes white and distinction colour. Unlike the other regiments, the huguenots would appear to have only four companies, but they were big ones.
