Post by Old John » Thu Jul 18, 2019 2:37 pm

just seen that Helion have released the above title, saying it is a revised edition No43 in Century of the Soldier series, i was wondering if there is a substanial difference between the original title No2 in the series, if so what's new there? any info on content difference would be most appreciated, many thanks in advance

landed this morning Helion No 41 Armies and Wars of the Sun King by Rene Chartrand, only had a quick look through, brilliant work, great illustrations

according to the preface of "the Armies and Wars of the Sun King 1643 -1715" Volume ! the Guard of Louis XIV, contains 30 or so colour plates , some original plates, Marbot plates, info on flags, liveries of marshals & generals, etc,

2nd volume will cover Dutch wars upto 1680's, evolution of line infantry, mercenary units
3rd volume will cover League of Augsburg, Gendarmarie, cavalry, dragoons and so on
4th volume will cover WSS, info on artillery, engineers, health, constabulary and more

hope that helps

Hi,
the second edition of Marlborough's other army has received some slight editing and has 8 new colour plates with contextual notes by Mark Allen.

I'm working on Rene's second volume now- it will be out before Christmas, with a third volume on the French line cavalry out by May 2020.

There is lots more late 17th/early 18th century stuff due out of course

Charles
