A European village

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

A European village

Post by kiwipeterh » Tue Mar 22, 2011 9:17 am

I've finally finished the Hudson & Allen European village. Well actually all I did was apply a few tufts to the finished product but in my defence those tufts are critical to the look of the final item.

Details and a few pictures can be seen at:

http://web.mac.com/nataliendpeter/Site/ ... llage.html

but to get you going here's a teaser ...

I can't wait to spill some blood over this!!

Really, really nice. I love your weeds.

Thank you Duke of Plazo-Toro. You are quite correct - the weeds are what make it!

Is this just part of the European village???
I really like this, especially the cobbled enterance and courtyard.
After a long days march I could see the officer's renting rooms at this inn and having their horses cared for in the attached stables.
A nice piece of terrain

Hello Ray

I'm not quite sure I'm following you. The picture at the top of this thread is only part of the village. If you go to:

http://web.mac.com/nataliendpeter/Site/ ... llage.html

you will see more pictures which show the complete village. The village comes as a single casting.

I hope this helps.

And yes, the village would make a wonderful billet for higher ranked gentlemen. :D

You wrote that is from Hudson & Allen but it a real 28 or more 25mm Village?

Best Wishes,

Great looking model and as you said on your site it must have been difficult to paint with everything being on the one base. That's also a great looking site you have there. I don't know how people find the time.

Peter, I have just been admiring your Saxons, it's a pity you can't get to the next one day game at Whitburn but feel free to send your toys over and we'll give them an outing for you

I could supply you with 5 Saxon Batallions, but they are from Klengels Brigade who fought days before the battle at Gorodetschna.

Sometimes I think I'm 10 Years late with my project for Reynier, Schwarzenberg and Tormassov

Hello Günter

The Hudson & Allen are advertised as 25mm on the http://www.wargamescenics.com/ site.

And I'm sure the players at the Whitburn game wont mind if your Saxons are not the exact units that fought at Gorodetschna. They'll be much closer than any other stand-ins.

Howdies Dave

Thank you for the compliments on my site. Sadly there is only so much time and I fear that actual figure painting looses out. But it's not updating the site that steals the time, but rather checking all those other sites and forums (such as this one!) that sucks the minutes and hours away.

I'd love to partake in games like the Whitburn game but the travel is a bit of an obstacle. The shame of it all is that we were in the UK for around 9 months in 2009 and participation at one of these events would have been a starter then.

Hello Ray

I see. With a foot print of 16.5" by 11.0" it will do for general gaming for me. Of course I also have an as yet unpainted "Late Medieval Village Set Building #3" which will very easily extend the village a little if more is required. You can see a picture of this at:

http://www.wargamescenics.com/Late_Medi ... Bldg3.html

Oh, and good man about the weed. Obviously you are a gentleman of utmost distinction and have a keen eye.

Lovely stuff indeed!

Anyone know a UK vendor for Hudson and Allen?

Hello Cameronian

I started this ... so ...

I got my Hudson & Allen buildings from Vatican Enterprises who make the buildings. They are based in the US and I have had excellent service from them - I live in NZ. Their website is http://www.wargamescenics.com/

On the above site their is a 'Find your local retailer' section which provides a link to eBob Miniatures in the UK who do indeed list some of the Hudson & Allen buildings on http://www.ebobminiatures.com/products/buildings.htm
