A WSS game from the Sunday Cake Club

Post by Darkman » Sun Jan 08, 2012 5:13 pm

Just a few pictures from our WSS game today. The allies were out numbered so had to go on the defensive to start with. French/Bavarians 22 Battalions 38 Squadrons. Allies 13 Battalions, 25 Squadrons.

The one village was heavily contested until the Danes were thrown out by the French only in turn to by removed by a combined Danish Hesse Kassel assault.

The massed French cavalry assault on their right flank (20 Squadrons) were halted by British Battalions and Austrian counter attacks and then thrown back by a British cavalry assault.

On the other wing the Bavarian cavalry did a splendid job of pushing back Allied Dragoons and Hesse Kassel cavalry but were let down by a tardy advance by French infantry.

Allies won in the end as the French had over extended them selves and were about to be rolled up from their right flank

All in all a very good game (written by an Allied player of course)

Very nice looking game. Love what you did with the Conflix buildings on individual diorama style bases.

That is the kind of battle I am aspiring to! Lovely collections on display. I like how the regts have the names against them, any chance that you can take some individual regt shots as they would be great to see some close ups ?

The allies seemed heavily out numberd, was this balanced by troop class or was it objective driven game ?

That is QUITE an impressive battle and a superb collection of soldiers!

Hi thanks all for the comments.

Hope fully later in the year we will be putting on a bigger game with more battalions and squadrons.

jezamonos, if you would like to see some pictures of regiments have a look on the Painting Pallet under my user name, or look for Bob Lorton or hautpol.

Hope that helps

A bit of thread necromancy, but I took part in the aforementioned 'bigger game' with the Sunday Cake Club at the weekend and have blogged my adventures on the Scrivsland Blog

Here are some images from the game (loads more and some gumpf on the blog):

Lovely looking set-up!

May I ask whose flags were used?

Off the top of my head I think the French are GMB, the Danish are from Maverick Models, the Irish are Warflag, The Bavarians I don't know and others are to be found on the internet. Anything specific?

I will try to sort out my photos this weekend. Suffering from shell shock at the moment from having painted over 100 cavalry and 120 foot in the last 10 weeks.

Hello Darkman,

Thanks for the info. No, I wasn't looking at anything in particular. I'm busy planning two WSS armies (collector's eyes are bigger than painter's belly as an old Commanche used to say to me!) which are going to be mixed Franco-Bavarians against mainly Prussian and Dutch (plus a few British and Danish regiments) Allies.

Maybe, once you feel like you're back on earth, we might see some more photos here. Well done and thanks again!

All Good Wishes to you.

With pictures like that, necromancers must be on the side of the angels!

Good photos and excellent painting!

Sorted things out now (including how to download photos from my phone) So just a few photos giving the overall game.

This is most of the Prussian and Allied cavalry under Eugene

Allies crossing the Nebel

French hold on their right.

And then leave Blenheim and push the Allies back
Image

The Game was a reversal of the actual Battle.
The Allied Attack under Marlborough ground to a halt due to bad deployment in crossing the Nebel. Also to few troops masking Blenheim allowed the French infantry to come into the action.

On the other side Prussian Dragoons advanced through the woods and distracted the French stationed there.

The Bavarian infantry did not support each other and the Prussian Infantry absorbed French and Bavarian cavalry giving their cavalry the opportunity to sweep their opponents before them. It was a close game after 5 hours of play there was only about 3 brigades in it and one more turn could have seen a draw.

Hope you have enjoyed the photos.
