This regiment of Huguenot horse, was the regiment of the Duke of Schomberg. Schomberg was of course killed at the Boyne, and was succeeded by the future Earl of Galway.
It was raised in England in March 1688, with eight troops. Most officers were Huguenots who had some to England with William of Orange in November 1688. Besides the establishment officers, there were a further 142 officers attached to the regiment as 'reformed' officers. These were also all Huguenots.
A ninth troops was added in early 1690. The regiment served in Ireland until 1691, and in Flanders from 1692 on. It was placed on the Irish Establishment in September 1698, and reduced in March 1699. Officers were placed on the pension list of the Irish Establishment.
