Warfare miniatures for Scanian war?

Post by Gunfreak » Sun Jun 15, 2014 6:23 pm

So some how I missed this period, it's one of the few wars I could like, that actualy had a decent norwegian contiginent.

It's the 1660-1670s

Would Warfare miniatures work for this period, or is it a decade or two two early?

I, too, have become interested in this theatre and period. I suppose you could use Warfare's 'apostle' figures and most of the horse would be very similar, however, Northstar's 1672 would be a fine choice for the Scanian War. Too bad for you, they just had a terrific sale. I failed to pull the trigger as well :(

Also, Dan Schorr's extinct "Northern Wars" site would be helpful. I just checked and even the way back machine doesn't have it anymore. I down loaded all his material so I could send you a file via PM, or if Dan is following along, he may help you out.

Actually, Warfare figures are pretty accurate for the Scanian Wars. Look at the illustrations in Karoliner and Kanick's Military Uniforms in Colour and you will see that not only do the Scanian War troops have long sleeves on their coats but they often do not wear apostles(some do) but have slung cartridge pouches....

There are several photos of WARFARE units paintrd for the Battle of Lund that were posted by Lewenhaupt on the Scanian/GNW topic.

Here is one:

For the Scanian War I would go with North Star's 1672 range but there may be some useful Warfare miniatures like officers, etc.

What differences are there between the ranges that you would recommend North Star's range?

Mainly because North Star figures uniforms are more suitable for the Scanian War period. See the example bellow of Danish uniforms. I would use Warfare for early 1680's onward.

Are there any good sources for Norwegian and Swedish uniforms?

If I do this period, it will be based on the norwegian stuff.

Still think there may be a possible issue with the length of the coat sleeves from the Northstar range... figures are lovely though

"The Scanian War 1675-1679" will have most everything you need for the Swedes.

I should add that the book is by Lar-Eric Hoglund.

Of course that's Lars-Eric. I must be distracted by my sons upcoming wedding.
