My understanding is that they are distinct regiments, du Roi (as in Régiment du Roi; the King's regiment) was established in the 1630's and the cuirassiers du Roi were formed in the 1660s. I think the blue faced red may be indicative of the King's livery.
Neither is to be confused with the Régiment du Roi of the infantry, which actually when I think of it, may not have worn blue faced red (Gris faced blue I seem to recall)
