Other uses for Zulu war British troops

Post by The Rabblerouser » Sat Jul 07, 2018 11:37 pm

Anyone know of any other theatres outside of South Africa where the red coated Zulu war British and associated forces etc, could be used?

You can use them for the Egyptian revolt 1882.

Thanks I'm sort of looking at ways to expand the use of these troops.

Historically though I have seen some of the highlanders still wearing red coats but the rest seem to be wearing blue grey or khaki or is that moving more towards the Mahdist war?

Afghanistan/North West Frontier and the 1st Boer War, plus Egypt I think covers it really.

The grey and khaki uniforms are from the later period the relief of Khartoum.
The 1882 period is an interesting little colonial war with a nice mix of troop types and starts with the bombardment and landings at Alexandria then the march onto Cairo with homemade ‘armoured trains scouting up the tracks.

Afghanistan/North West Frontier
Is that before the Second Anglo afghan war before khaki becomes official?
