Uniforms at Sheriffmuir?

Post by lenin » Wed Feb 18, 2009 9:30 pm

Hi,
Can anyone help me with any information about the Hanoverian uniforms at the battle of Sheriffmuir 1715?
Cheers, Andy

Andy,
I hope this helps a little. I'm still collating more on the uniforms myself as well as flags.

All wore red coats with the following facings;

Infantry
Forfar's - Buff facings, waistcoat & breeches, white hat lace and gaitors. Drummers reverse colours with red waistcoat and breeches and white lace.
Wightman's - Greyish white
Shannon's - Yellow
Morrison's - Bright yellow
Montagu's - Yellow but I also have it listed as Tawny
Clayton's - Yellow
Orrery's - Blue
Egerton's - White

Cavalry
Portmore's - Blue
Evan's - Light Green
Kerr's - White
Carpenter's - Blue
Stair's - Yellow
Gentlemen Volunteers - Everyday clothing, various colours

Remember, by this time they were all wearing the black cockade in their hats.

P.S. I should have mentioned that the cavalry are in fact dragoons

Thanks for that. My next question was going to be about flags, guess I'll wait a bit. :D
