Just looked at the Jan Wyck painting used on Mike McNally's Aughrim book, several cavalry chaps wearing cuirass there.
Granted it's only titled "cavalry skirmish", with no reference to Ireland, but its obviously being used as a generic illustration of the period, much like my toy soldiers will represent what I think they looked like.
You pays your money & takes your choice.

Ray the book is a very good study of cavalry, & I think that most if not all illustrations of military dress & equipment in the period we are discussing here, are at best just guesswork, so I wouldn't compare it to White Dwarf to hurriedly.
